HANDBALL SHOOTING DRILLS

handball shooting drills

Handball shooting drills are meant to perfect the shooting precision for a maximum conversion rate of attacks, it is also associated to the attacking drills and dribbling drills.

Accurate shooting is one of the most important handball skills that a team should acquire to actually win games, it doesn't matter how many balls you can recover or how fast are you in counter attacking and how organized your attacks are as long as you can't shoot with high accuracy.

Most handball coaches focus a lot on the shooting drills to make a difference in games in fact it is one of the first aspects a handball coach would work on with his team.

There are actually limited Techniques in handball shooting but mastering them is essential.

Shooting drill 1: Straight shot

The straight shot is the shooting when the player is in a walking position it is the basic handball shooting drill.

The player Puts the shoulder forward and lifts the ball and swing back straight slightly bending the shooting arm and the leg in walking position.

The player should shift his to the leg in the walking position to keep the balance while directing the ball with his toes.

The elbow should be maintained in front the ball while the hand is behind the ball.

Taking a flat second for last step as a crossover step is important to maximum balance while shooting.

This shooting drill is trained on while raising movement speed from shooting from a standing position to walking position and finally running position.

In this drill which is a bit more complex the player will shoot the ball while jumping, it is often used when in 1 on 1 situation with the goalkeeper or the last defender.

this drill is often worked on in handball attacking drills since it's a main part of the attacking strategy of the team if playing against a zone defense.

The player should take a second first before jumping to keep the balance the set a foot on the ground the opposite foot to the shooting arm the jump while bending the shooting arm and the free leg, while letting the ball go the body must be stretched and kept in an upright position to lose the ball from the highest position and finish the movement with a touchdown and swinging the shooting arm for balance.

Shooting drill 3: dive shot

The diving shot is often used in penetrations to the 7 meters zone to get as much closer to the goal as possible making it hard for the goalkeeper to react and limiting his reflex time.

this shooting drill should be performed with caution since a bad landing technique could result in injuries.

The player has to use one or both feet to dive the jump isn't high as the jump shot but as called diving down, the ankles knees and hip should bend to give boost to the jump.

just after releasing the ball the hands should be in a touchdown position, bending of the arms is essential to avoid injury and absorb the shock, often players slide on the knees belly and chest to make the landing easier.

This shooting drill is more about placing the ball than shooting with force since it's mostly performed in the zone.

The hand ball drills for shooting are important and practice is necessary that's why at every handball shooting drill a shooting technique is also included to master it and perfect it.

Perfecting the shooting gives a huge advantage to a handball team and makes their attacks more efficient.

In the handball drills the shooting drills must be performed often to get maximum conversion ratio of attacks.
